Prerequisite: 24-hour lead inspector course from a CT DPH approved training provider.
LEAD RISK ASSESSOR DESCRIPTION:
Lead Risk Assessor courses offered at Chem Scope are CT DPH Approved under 20-478 and are also EPA Accredited under EPA CFR 40 745.226. Training may be accepted in other states. Check with individual states for any new requirements and added requirements for licensing or certification. Students who successfully complete the initial course become eligible to be certified by DPH in the discipline. They have to meet State requirements, submit a fee and an application.
Annual state licensing is required for private industry lead inspector-risk assessors and lead consultant companies in most states. If you would like to become licensed in the state of Connecticut, you can find more information here: https://portal.ct.gov/
Those who wish to become licensed also need to pass the LEHA third party exam after class within 180 days. Here is more information: https://home.
Per Section 20-479 of chapter 400c, code enforcement officials working within the scope of duties may be exempt from CT DPH licensing.
Additional experience and educational requirements for Lead Risk Assessors as noted from CT regulation 20-478:
Complete at least twenty-five (25) lead inspections over a minimum three (3) month period as a credentialed lead inspector or at least one year of experience in a related field such as lead, asbestos, radon, or other environmental remediation work (submit Verification of Experience Form); AND
Education

- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education and at least one year of experience in a related field such as lead, asbestos, radon, or other environmental remediation work, or
- Certification as an industrial hygienist, or credentialed as an engineer, architect, sanitarian or in a related scientific field, or
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalency and at least two (2) years of experience in a related field such as lead, asbestos, radon, or other environmental remediation work

Cancellation policy
Class sizes are restricted. In order to provide training to people on waiting lists, we require at least 1 business day (24 hour) notification that a student will not attend a class. Except in the case of emergencies or illness, including COVID-19 symptoms, quarantine, or diagnosis, we reserve the right to…
- In the case of same-day cancellation for refresher training classes, refuse refund and retain 100% of the price of each ticket purchased but not used by the registered party. In this case, students will have to purchase a new ticket to attend a refresher on a different date and cannot transfer their ticket fee.
- In the case of same-day cancellation for initial training classes, retain a non-refundable fee equal to 50% of the price of each ticket purchased but not used by the registered party.
