COVID-19 Response – Training

When it comes to occupational training for lead and asbestos courses, we understand that many of our students require annual refreshers to maintain certification and to remain in compliance with the regulations of federal and state agencies. We are reluctant to cancel these types of courses, especially when these courses are difficult to find elsewhere. We also understand that our students, who are professionals in lead and asbestos abatement, remediation, and consulting, play key roles in maintaining environmental health and safety.
Unfortunately, most of our courses cannot be taught online.
However, it seems clear that caution is required. We are currently restricting class sizes as much as possible to allow for social distancing.
We are asking our students for the following things:
- If you do not feel well, please avoid class.
- If you do not need a refresher yet, please postpone coming to class.
Annual refreshers are required for lead and asbestos consultants and contractors to remain active in their disciplines. After two years from the date a student received a certificate (i.e. after the one year grace period after expiration), that student can no longer attend a refresher, but must attend an initial course again.
For RRP, online refresher training is approved by the EPA, but may last only 3 years if it does not contain a hands-on component. We are not currently approved to teach online RRP. Online training cannot be consecutive, but must be sandwiched with in-class refreshers. In-class RRP refreshers and initials are good for 5 years.
The date of this post is March 13, 2020, and, as yet, much remains unknown about the spread of COVID-19. We are following updates to the best of our ability, and we hope to increase or decrease our precautions in a timely and appropriate manner.
